Eyeshadow Is Back on the Runways for Fall 2025 (2025)

If there’s one beauty trend to know ahead of the fall 2025 season, it’s this: Eye shadow is back! And no, we’re not talking about a touch of sheer shimmer or a dab of neutral shadow in the crease. On the runways, our beauty editors spotted ultramatte cream shadow swept all the way to the brows, tons of metallic gold, smoky eyes, and pops of pastel color on the lids, which all pointed to a renaissance of eye shadow. Eyes were undoubtedly the star of the runways at New York Fashion Week, but there were also a few gorgeous moments of lip and glowy skin inspiration. At Thom Browne’s Fall/Winter 2025 show, models walked the runway wearing feathered eyelashes long enough to fly away. “The inspiration came from birds. We wanted to bring a magical story to life through makeup,” says makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench, who worked with the brand Lashify.

Makeup legend Pat McGrath designed the doll-like, abstract embellishments seen on the models at Marc Jacobs, which were meant to mimic lipstick kisses and beauty marks.

Gold flecks bring a more subtle touch of shimmer than a full wash of golden eye shadow, as seen at the Kobi Halperin Fall/Winter 2025 show.

Even brows got the golden treatment at Bibhu Mohapatra, where models had matching gilded eyebrows and lids.

Eye shadow is one of the biggest beauty trends for fall 2025, if the runways are any indication. It had a starring role at many key shows, including at Luar with this matte take. The inspiration? Eighties-supermodel glam meets DIY club drag, according to key M.A.C makeup artist Terry Barber.

At Kim Shui, models wore a frosty ’90s-inspired wash of silver and black eyeshadow, designed by Romero Jenning for M.A.C Cosmetics.

At Tory Burch, makeup artist Diane Kendal looked to the ’70s as inspiration for the neutral matte eyeshadow that was blended from lashline to brow.

Makeup artist Fara Homidi used her eponymous brand and custom pigments to create the “mannequin latex lips and doll eyes” seen at Sandy Liang.

The “watercolor” blue eyes seen at Christian Cowan were designed by lead makeup artist Jaleesa Jaikaran, who pulled the specific shade straight from the collection.

“We used hardly any concealer or foundation and let the skincare shine,” makeup artist Sil Bruinsma says of the look at Prabal Gurung. “We added a flush of color to cheeks, eyes, and lips, working beautifully with the new Peach & Lily Glass Skin Luminizing Stick. It’s the perfect glassy highlighter for both bare skin and red-carpet glam!"

At TWP, the beauty equivalent of a crisp white shirt: glossy lips and sheer, fresh, healthy skin.

“For this look, we wanted something fresh, healthy, and effortlessly enhanced. The whole look is natural, with subtle glossy hues to the lips and cheeks,” Diane Buzzetta, creative director of makeup for Tilt Beauty, says. “We used our two newest launches—Lashscape Mascara and Grip Stick Hydrating Lip Treatment—to create a natural yet radiant finish. Grip Stick gives that ‘your lips but better’ effect while deeply hydrating. Our models have been loving how comfortable it feels.”

“The beauty look was inspired by a gorgeous girl who took a walk through Central Park: luminous, windswept, lips bitten by the cold,” Carolina Herrera makeup artist Samantha Lau says. “[It’s] utterly effortless.”

“For this season, I created a ’90s-glam smoky eye focusing on deep, blended color, enhanced with our Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick,” Bobbi Brown global pro artist Marc Reagan says. “We paired it with softly sculpted cheeks, using our new Pot Rouge Velvet Matte launching later this spring, and a pale nude lip for a balanced, polished look.”

“The look is sensual but tough,” Bobbi Brown global artistic director Hannah Murray says. “There are handsome brows, satin skin, and a soft blurred rose-petal lip using something new from Bobbi Brown. Some girls had exaggerated, imperfect, smoked-out silver eyes, some with remnants of silver eye makeup. It’s reminiscent of ‘end of the night makeup.’ ”

Designer Frederick Anderson’s romantic vision for the Fall/Winter 2025 collection included a rich statement-makeup look centered on a sooty, smoked-out eye.
