A nine event meeting has been assembled for Belmont on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is out ten metres for the entire circuit.

Open race this with several chances but I am going the way of 5 Pharoah Show (Bet Now:$16.00) for Michael Grantham. He debuted just over two weeks ago over 1300m at Pinjarra where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never threatening, his finale was more than sound in defeat. Like him up in trip and for mine, this looks a winnable race.

3 Cheyne Bay (Bet Now:$4.00) looks a nice horse for Adam Durrant. He debuted last Wednesday at this track/distance where he gave them a start and a beating, finishing best from off the speed on a heavy track, so he ticks the wet track box and has the hard run under the belt.

Long Shot

7 Prove Me Wrong (Bet Now:$26.00) is a Dan Morton trained filly that comes here for dtartbtwo after debuting last Wednesday at this track/distance in the race won by Cheyne Bay. She had a suck run on the fence and loomed large to win but just couldn’t quite finish the job. Better for the experience, I think she’s in with a decent shout.

1 Ginnivan (Bet Now:$2.40) looks the leader and he loves the short course. He got control three weeks ago at this track/distance and once that eventuated, it was race over and he was quite dominant in the run to the line. He looks like he will find the top again and from there, he takes running down.

4 Songaa (Bet Now:$3.40) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at this track/distance. He got into a decent spot just off the speed and presented to win but had no answers for the finale of the ever consistent Under Influence. Track/distance specialist and hard to beat despite a tricky gate.

Long Shot

5 Ain’t No Other Man (Bet Now:$13.00) has been pretty solid in two runs back from a spell and should be around the mark. He was outside Ginnivan three weeks back at this track/distance and tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through when fourth. Not sure he wins, but can run top four.

3 Captain Pluto (Bet Now:$1.95) should take a power of beating for Team Williams, who look to have a very strong hand in the race. This guy resumed with a bang when winning at this track/distance two weeks ago, giving them a start and a beating in an electric performance. Potentially has eyes on a race like the Perth Cup, maybe, but the return indicated he has come back as good as ever and maybe they can set their eyes on better races. Keen on him.

2 Buckets Ridge (Bet Now:$11.00) is a quality four year old for Team Williams that resumes. He won the Melvista as a three year old in strong style before going to the Derby where he was quite game in defeat but had to settle for a second to A Lot Of Good Men. He is a horse who can sprint well fresh and has class.

Long Shot

4 Corn Cob (Bet Now:$13.00) lands on speed and his best is more than good enough to threaten at odds. He ran behind Triple Jay two weeks back at this track/distance and tried hard. Just lacked the class to go with them late in the piece. Lands near the front, he could pinch first four.

3 Sky Duke (Bet Now:$9.50) swims and he looks to have returned in really good order. He ran last Wednesday at this track/distance on heavy ground when leading and giving a decent enough kick but he couldn’t quite see it through, nabbed late by Sunny Honey. Good record at Belmont, good racing style, handles the conditions…hard to beat.

9 Eliteone (Bet Now:$6.00) is the very interesting. Simon Miller trained gelding that resumes and I reckon they are going to train him as a sprinter after trying to stretch him out in trip. His best form has come over the short course and gee he went nice in a recent trial win. Huge market watch.

Long Shot

4 Reign Of Fire (Bet Now:$61.00) is a Colin Webster trained gelding that resumes. This guy resumes, having not raced since Feb 3 at Ascot when down the track behind Indie Ruler. He is a horse who can sprint well fresh and he clearly saves his best for Belmont vs Ascot, so keen to see how he goes.

3 Emerald Trader (Bet Now:$5.50) on top for me. This gelding is racing really well and should prove hard to beat off the back of a strong effort two weeks ago over this track/distance when back in the run and closed off with real purpose late in the piece when a narrow third to Iowa. Knocking on the door and strikes a winnable race.

7 Queen Of Jerusalem (Bet Now:$4.40) is on the seven day back up for Adam Durrant after racing last Saturday over 2200m here. She got a fair way out of her ground but her finale was very good late when third to Cosmic Chaos. Back slightly in trip no issue, hard fit and in form. Hard to beat.

Long Shot

9 Stylax (Bet Now:$19.00) is a knockout hope. He ran behind two weeks back Iowa here. He was near last and made up some ground but was never really threatening. He loves getting his feet wet and if the track is heavy, I think he comes right into play.

Market will be fascinating with 3 Patron Of Kings (Bet Now:$11.00) because I do think he looks primed for a big first up run. He resumes for Team Gangemi, having not raced since March 20 when midfield here, but he has been given a good break and his trial work to get ready has looked great to my eye, but the big tick is that he swims and with significant rain forecast, that makes him a bet for me.

1 Keep Attacking (Bet Now:$3.50) has returned in super order for Team Williams and commands respect. Let down with purpose to win fresh over 1000m before going to 1200m three weeks ago when back off the speed and surged late but just missed. Hard fit now, he likes wet ground, hard to beat.

Long Shot

9 Enchanting Sound (Bet Now:$51.00) is an improver for Neville Parnham. Market said she had three legs when resuming here two weeks back and ran accordingly, getting the suck run in transit but failed to finish her race off behind Toropa. Fitter, her best is more than good enough so I am not dismissing her.

2 Sentimental Belle (Bet Now:$1.65) is racing in just about career best form for Team Williams and seems the straight bat play. Strong winner two weeks ago over 1200m here, getting the suck run in transit behind the speed before angling clear and she knuckled down with purpose late to win and win well. Extra 100m no issue and is the one to beat.

8 Probity (Bet Now:$14.00) is a capable animal for Colin Webster. Strong winner two back before going to 1400m a fortnight back where he got too far out of his ground but his finale was quite good without threatening behind Captain Pluto. Back in trip I find interesting but he’ll be stronger than most late. Just needs a drag into the race.

5 Autumn Rebel (Bet Now:$11.00) is a fascinating runner. Talented four year old that resumes, having not raced since the WA Derby when midfield and perhaps not seeing the 2400m out behind A Lot Of Good Men. No public trials but has a touch of quality so I think watch the market.

7 Crescent City (Bet Now:$SP.00) looks extremely hard to beat here for Team Williams. Most of these ran over 1400m here two weeks ago, won by Triple Jay, but I think you can mount a strong case that this guy should have won, getting badly held up at the wrong stage before eventually getting clear and was strong late. Fitter and up in trip, handles wet ground, great bet IMO.

6 Starry Heights (Bet Now:$SP.00) has a fab track/distance record so he commands respect for me. He ran at this track/distance three weeks ago where he seemingly had every chance from just off the speed but couldn’t quite finish the job. His best is more than good enough to give this a shake.

Long Shot

3 Another Chino (Bet Now:$SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep. Market said he’d need the run when racing behind Triple Jay and while he didn’t win, I thought his finale was quite good in defeat, closing off nicely. He might want one more run but he does have a touch of quality about him.

7 Pray Again (Bet Now:$5.00) looks hard to beat for Neville Parnham. He ran over 1400m here two weeks ago in a strong race where he got a fair way out of his ground but his finale was quite good in defeat behind Captain Pluto. He was a few weeks between runs there so he has room for improvement and up to the mile, he’ll do me each way.

10 Arcadia Knight (Bet Now:$5.00) has returned in really good order for Michael Grantham and is one of the leading contenders. He ran over the mile last Thursday at Northam where he got back but tracked up and showed nice change up speed, surging late and just missing out on the win. Room for improvement, he rates highly.

Long Shot

3 Icebergs (Bet Now:$SP.00) is dangerous at odds. He resumed behind Captain Pluto two weeks back. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never really a winning threat, he kept finding the line and was quite good in defeat. He can settle much closer in the run and has good upside.

BEST BET: Race Eight Number 7 Crescent City

NEXT BEST: Race Seven Number 2 Sentimental Belle

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 7 Pray Again
